On 15 November 2022, Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang paid a courtesy call on Vanuatu’s newly-elected Prime Minister Alatoi Ishmael Kalsakau Maau’Koro.

Ambassador Li read out and handed over the message of congratulation from Li Keqiang, Premier of the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, to Prime Minister Kalsakau. Ambassador Li said that under the strategic guidance of the two countries’ leaders, China-Vanuatu relations have always maintained strong impetus for development. General Secretary Xi Jinping spoke highly of China-Vanuatu relations as a model of mutual respect, solidarity and cooperation between developing countries. This year marks the 40th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vanuatu, and both sides have just completed their important domestic political agenda. The Chinese side thanks Prime Minister Kalsakau for sending congratulatory letter to President Xi Jinping on his election as General Secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the successful convening of the 20th CPC National Congress. At a new historical starting point, China is willing to work together with Vanuatu to continuously enhance political mutual trust, stay committed to mutual benefit and win-win results, carry forward the friendship between the peoples, deepen strategic coordination, and strengthen regional cooperation, so as to promote China-Vanuatu comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level.

Prime Minister Kalsakau once again congratulated President Xi Jinping on his election as General Secretary of the 20th Central Committee of the CPC, and thanked Premier Li Keqiang for his warm congratulatory message. He emphasized that Vanuatu and China have gone through 40 years of wind and rain, and have long been as close as brothers. China has long provided generous assistance to Vanuatu’s economic and social development, for which the Vanuatu side is deeply grateful. The Vanuatu side appreciates the extraordinary achievements made by the Chinese people under the CPC leadership in the past ten years, and is willing to continuously abide by the one China principle, further learn the development experience of the Chinese path to modernization, and deepen practical cooperation in various fields, so as to realize common development.
