     Your Excellency Jean Pierre Nirua,

     Chinese Scholarship Recipients,

     Teachers and Students,

     Distinguished Guests,

     Ladies and Gentlemen,

     Good evening.

We are very happy to gather here to bid farewell to the 23 excellent Ni-Vanuatu students who have been awarded the 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship. On behalf of the Chinese Embassy, I would like to extend my warm congratulations to all the recipients. I also wish to extend my sincere gratitude to the Vanuatu Ministry of Education and Training for your continuous strong support and assistance in the implementation of the Chinese Government Scholarship program.

China and Vanuatu enjoy a long history of friendship. China is one of the earliest countries to establish diplomatic ties with Vanuatu. Based on the principles of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefits and win-win cooperation, our bilateral relationship has undergone significant development and is now at its best in history. Not long ago, Prime Minister Salwai paid a very successful and productive visit to China. The visit greatly strengthened our pragmatic cooperation and would bring greater benefits to both countries and both peoples.

Education is the foundation of a nation. No education, no future. With the sound development of our bilateral relationship, the exchanges and cooperation in education and human resource training are also making great progress. In the past 10 years, nearly 130 Ni-Van students have been granted Chinese Government Scholarships and more than 1,500 Ni-Vans have been to China to participate in various types of training. I am pleased to see China has become a favorite destination for Ni-Van students to study overseas and a lot of Ni-Van graduates from China have been performing prominently in their careers and become the backbone of Vanuatu's development.

The 2019 Chinese Government Scholarship recipients will soon embark on a journey to study in China. China is a country worth exploring and learning. China has a vast territory with profound civilization and deep-rooted culture. In the recent decades, China has been developing vigorously and making great achievements in scientific and technological advancement. I believe the experience in China will give you a lifetime of benefits.

I would like to express my best wishes to you. First, I hope you will adapt to the new environment, and overcome cultural differences and the language barrier as soon as possible. Second, I hope you will cherish this opportunity, study hard and live up to what your parents and your country expect of you. Third, I hope you will not only acquire professional knowledge, but also be envoys of friendship between Vanuatu and China.

Wish you every success in your study and a happy experience in China.

     Thank you.
