Friends,

Good evening! On behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu, I would like to extend warmest congratulations to the Vanuatu-China Friendship Association for holding the Vanuatu-China Friendship & Cultural Night.

The friendship between China and Vanuatu has run a long history. Before Vanuatu’s independence, China staunchly supported the people of Vanuatu in resisting colonialism and fighting for national independence, and cast an important vote for Vanuatu's membership in the United Nations. China became one of the first countries to establish official relations with Vanuatu after its independence in 1980. Over the past 39 years since the establishment of diplomatic ties, the China-Vanuatu relationship has made significant progress. Pragmatic cooperation has yielded fruitful results. People-to-people exchanges have kept unfolding.

China has been doing its best to support Vanuatu's development with no political strings attached. Over the years, China has donated batches of disaster relief and medical assistance to Vanuatu. Taking a stroll around Port Vila, you could easily see the landmarks built with China’s aid, including the Parliament House, Prime Minister's Office buildings, Korman Stadium, National Convention Center, Malapoa College, and USP Emalus Campus extension project. China’s assistance has also been delivered to outer islands, such as Agriculture College in Santo, Luganville International Wharf and Tanna-Malekula road project. So far, the Chinese government has dispatched over 200 doctors to work in two Chinese resident medical teams in Port Vila and Luganville respectively. China offers around 20 Chinese Government Scholarships to Ni-Vanuatu students and various training opportunities to hundreds of Vanuatu citizens every year. These projects have played a positive role in promoting Vanuatu's social development, capacity building and people's livelihood.

The earth is but one country and mankind its citizens. With the progress of human society and development of modern science and technology, the life of people is getting more and more intertwined. Now, our world is facing multi-challenges such as COVID-19 pandemic, extreme poverty and climate change. People from different countries need to work together to overcome these difficulties. The people of China and Vanuatu have looked out for each other and waded through difficulties together, setting an example for the other countries. China-Vanuatu relations and the friendship between the two peoples have been further deepened in the joint fight against COVID-19, disaster response and efforts to revive the economy, which has illustrated the true meaning of a Community with a Shared Future for Mankind.

On July 1st, we celebrated the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China. Under the leadership of the CPC, the Chinese nation has stood up, grown rich and is becoming stronger. While China is embarking on a new journey of building a socialist modern country in an all-round way and marching towards the second centenary goal, Vanuatu, also in a new development stage, is working to ensure a smooth transition to a developing country and building a wealthier state. Our two countries enjoy broad prospects for friendship and cooperation. China will always be a reliable friend and partner of Vanuatu. We will continue to share weal and woe with Vanuatu in joint efforts to create a brighter future for China-Vanuatu relations.

Vanuatu-China Friendship Association is a major folk organization in Vanuatu committed to promoting friendship with China. Since its establishment in 2008, it has made unremitting endeavors in enhancing China-Vanuatu relations. Looking ahead, we wish to join hands with VCFA and friends from all walks of life to continuously build up the bridge of friendship and cooperation, deepen understanding and intimacy, and promote the China-Vanuatu comprehensive strategic partnership to a new level.

Wish the Vanuatu-China Friendship & Cultural Night a great success!

Thank you!
