On January 15, 2024, Vanuatu Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Seremaiah issued an official press release on the Taiwan issue, reaffirming that the Vanuatu government adheres to the one-China principle. Notwithstanding the outcome of election in Taiwan, it cannot change the fact that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is integral part of China. He also called on the international community to respect the sovereignty of the People's Republic of China over Taiwan and support the maintenance of peace and security across the Taiwan Strait. The one-China policy is the cornerstone of the Vanuatu government's development of relations with China. Vanuatu is willing to continue to deepen the comprehensive strategic partnership with China on the basis of mutual respect and non-interference in domestic affairs of others.
