On 26 March 2026, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vanuatu published a Press Statement “Celebrating 44 Years of Diplomatic Relations Between the Republic of Vanuatu and the People’s Republic of China.” The statement emphasized that since the establishment of diplomatic ties in 1982, China has remained an important development partner of Vanuatu, contributing to Vanuatu’s national priorities and the well-being of its people. Vanuatu firmly adheres to the one-China principle and supports efforts by the Chinese government to realize national reunification, opposing “Taiwan independence”. Vanuatu reaffirms its commitment to strengthening bilateral relations with China in line with mutual respect, equality, international law, and multilateralism.
On the same day, the Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu H.E. Li Minggang also published an article on Daily Post, entitled “A Friendship Across Oceans, A Model of Shared Development.” The article highlighted that over the past 44 years, China–Vanuatu friendship has long been at the forefront of China’s relations with Pacific Island countries. China highly appreciates Vanuatu's consistent support for the Chinese government and people's efforts to seek national reunification on the Taiwan question. China stands ready to continue upholding the principle of the “Four Full Respects,” further deepen all-weather and all-round cooperation between two countries, and build an even closer community with a shared future.
