On 26 March 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu and the Vanuatu Parliament co-hosted a reception to celebrate the 44th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the People’s Republic of China and the Republic of Vanuatu. The event was held at the Vanuatu Parliament House, which was constructed with Chinese aid in the 1990s. Chinese Ambassador Li Minggang, Vanuatu President H.E. Nikenike Vurobaravu, Prime Minister Hon. Jotham Napat, Speaker of Parliament Hon. Stephen Felix, Ministers and Members of Parliament, as well as former Prime Ministers attended the event, totaling approximately 100 guests.

Ambassador Li reviewed the original aspiration behind the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Vanuatu, and appreciated Vanuatu for its firm adherence to the One China Principle. China stands ready to work with Vanuatu to build an even closer China–Vanuatu community with a shared future in the new era.

H.E. Vurobaravu, Hon. Felix and the former Prime Minister and first Ambassador of Vanuatu to China Hon. Sope recalled the history of Vanuatu–China relations and thanked China for its long-standing support. Vanuatu reaffirmed its firm commitment to the One China policy, and expressed readiness to further deepen cooperation and elevate bilateral relations.
