On 27 March 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu and the Vanuatu Police Force held a handover ceremony for Chinese aided police equipment at Cook Barracks. Ambassador Li Minggang, Minister of Internal Affairs, Hon.Andrew Solomon Napuat, Commissioner of Vanuatu Police Force, Kalshem Bongran attended the event, along with senior officials from the VPF and members of the Chinese Police Expert Team in Vanuatu, bringing the total number of attendees to approximately 30.

Ambassador Li stated that in recent years, as good friends, partners and brothers, China and Vanuatu have continuously deepened their cooperation in law enforcement, achieving fruitful results. China is willing to continue working hand in hand with Vanuatu to deepen law enforcement cooperation from this new starting point, and to jointly write a new chapter in law enforcement and security cooperation characterised by mutual benefit, mutual assistance and win-win outcomes.

Hon.Andrew Napuat expressed his gratitude for China’s long-standing assistance to Vanuatu in areas such as infrastructure, healthcare, people’s livelihoods, climate change response, and culture and education, and welcomed the extension of this friendship to the field of police and law enforcement cooperation. He hoped that the Vanuatu police would make good use of China’s police assistance to further enhance their law enforcement capabilities and better safeguard Vanuatu’s security.
