At the invitation of the City of Port Vila, Mr. Chen Jing, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Shanghai Municipal People’s Congress and President of the Shanghai People’s Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, led a delegation to visit Vanuatu from 11 to 13 May 2026.

During the visit, the delegation paid a courtesy call on Speaker of Parliament Hon. Felix, Port Vila City Council Commissioner Mr. Simon Bebe and Lord Mayor of Luganville Municipal Council. Hon. Mavutu. The delegation also attended a series of cultural events, including the 2026 Shanghai University of Sport – Chinese Table Tennis College Summer School Scholarship Award Ceremony and China–Vanuatu Table Tennis Friendship Match, as well as the “Shanghai Window” Book Donation Ceremony.  Chinese Ambassador to Vanuatu Li Minggang accompanied the delegation at related events.

Shanghai and Port Vila established sister-city relations in 1994.
