On 23 June 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu held an event marking the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations and cultural exchange with USP Emalus Campus. Mr. Gu Zihua, Counsellor of the Chinese Embassy, Dr. Monovi Amani, Acting Campus Director, faculty and students of USP, and representatives of Chinese institutions in Vanuatu, totally around 100 participants attended the event.

The event began with the video message delivered by H.E. Wang Yi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, to the 2026 Global Theme Event of the International Day for Dialogue among Civilizations. In Counsellor Gu’s remarks, he noted that China and Vanuatu share many common values. He encouraged young people to serve as bridges for dialogue among civilizations, learn Chinese, visit China, and become ambassadors of China-Vanuatu friendship.

Acting Director of Campus Dr. Amani highly commended the Global Civilization Initiative proposed by Chinese President Xi Jinping and other important concepts and initiatives. He thanked China for its long-standing support for the development of education in Vanuatu and expressed willingness to deepen cooperation with China in promoting youth exchanges and mutual learning between the two cultures.

During the cultural exchange session, Embassy diplomat performed the famous Chinese Guzheng piece “Butterfly Lovers”, USP faculty members presented Vanuatu custom dances. Members of the China Medical Team provided free medical consultations for students and staff. Teachers from the Confucius Classroom invited participants to experience traditional Chinese culture like paper-cutting and Chinese calligraphy, and the Police expert team delivered an anti-drug awareness presentation. The event concluded with a friendly basketball match between the two sides, which was marked by enthusiastic participation, warm applause, and a vibrant atmosphere.
