The Fifth Ministerial Dialogue on Police Capacity Building and Cooperation between China and the Pacific Island Countries was held in Beijing on September 8. Wang Xiaohong, Chinese State Councilor and Minister of Public Security, and Andrew Napuat, Vanuatu’s Minister of Internal Affairs, co-chaired the ministerial dialogue.
In his keynote speech, Wang Xiaohong emphasized that since the establishment of the ministerial dialogue mechanism, the foundation of mutual trust between China and the Pacific Island countries has grown stronger. Training and exchanges have deepened and consolidated, law enforcement cooperation has been practical and effective, and police authorities have built closer bonds and greater mutual understanding. This has played a positive role in promoting regional prosperity, stability and development.
Wang further stated that China stands ready to work with all parties to earnestly implement the important consensus reached by the leaders of China and Pacific Island countries, actively practice the four major global initiatives, adhere to openness and inclusiveness, strengthen multilateral cooperation, and make greater contributions to building a China-Pacific Island countries community with a shared future.
On the same day, Wang held a separate meeting with Andrew Napuat. Wang stated that China stands ready to strengthen exchanges at all levels with Vanuatu and deepen cooperation in combating illegal immigration and transnational crime as well as in law enforcement capacity building, so as to deliver tangible benefits to the two peoples. Napuat expressed his deep admiration for the great achievements China has made in its development, and expressed readiness to further policing and law enforcement cooperation.
