On September 16, 2026, the Chinese Embassy in Vanuatu and the Vanuatu National Library and Archives held a book donation ceremony under the “Window of Shanghai” project. Counsellor Gu Zihua of the Chinese Embassy, Director Richard Shing of the Vanuatu National Cultural Centre, and Chief Librarian Nelly Caleb of the Vanuatu National Library, among others, attended the ceremony.

Counsellor Gu said that the launch of the “Window of Shanghai” in Vanuatu represents another important outcome of cultural cooperation between China and Vanuatu. He expressed the belief that this cultural exchange platform will enable more people in Vanuatu to learn about China through reading, while gaining a deeper appreciation of the diversity of human civilizations and the values shared by all humanity.
Director Shing expressed appreciation for China’s strong support for Vanuatu’s cultural development. He said that the donated books will provide the people of Vanuatu, particularly young people, with a new avenue to learn about China, contributing to closer people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries and strengthening the friendship between the two peoples.

The donated books, provided by the Shanghai Library, cover a range of fields, including traditional Chinese culture, Chinese language learning and children’s literature.
